DIMA STRAKOVSKY (class of 98)
"Home Transfer" at ISEA 2000 Symposium
Paris, France
http://www.hometransfer.org

We are pleased to announce the launch of HOME TRANSFER, a Web project selected by ISEA 2000. It will be shown during the Symposium in Paris, France from December 7th to 10th.

The project can be viewed at: http://www.hometransfer.org

HOME TRANSFER is an ongoing project that explores the intersection of home, architecture and new technologies. A dwelling made of bread and its parasitic invasion is used to investigate changing notions of place and presence. Host/Guest relations are established between artist, architects and people online.

The site features streaming video of architects discussing a cultural paradigm where technology affects aspects of domestic life in new ways. Visitors may share thoughts in two guest books provided for this purpose. The aim is to build a space for speculation where people can express their excitement and/or anxiety about this topic.

Videos and other elements are renewed regularly. Two archives record an evolving discourse.

HOME TRANSFER is a project by PAT BADANI
In conjunction with the following team of artists:
DMITRY STRAKOVSKY, Ozgun Ozguc, Carrie Mandel, Todd Margolis and Jeff Holmes.

:)

Our software is standing by for your input.

The survey is the focal point for the interaction between the individual and the institution, a point of increasing importance in today's network economy and online society. Whether for aquiring demographic marketing data or for creating customized products, the survey is the interface for an apparatus that offers the threat of surveillance and control as well as the opportunity for a more user-friendly, personalized experience. "Last, First, M.I." is an experimental exhibition that will explore the ramifications of this apparatus when applied to an art context. Computerized surveys, both in the gallery and online, will generate customized artworks that will serve as the starting point for an investigation of the promises and limitations of the interactive, personalized experience.

McGinnis' allegorical oil paintings communicate human behavior on a metaphysical level. Her figurative work can be described as realism embedded in surrealism - addressing our people, times, triumphs, tragedies, hopes, and how these conditions consistently co-exist. We may also see these paintings as beautiful, gentle warnings to humanity.
